You could argue that the lines between fashion and craft are blurred but it seems that you can’t have one without the other.
Louisa Harding is arguably one of the most popular yarn designers and she is all too aware of the shelf life of a yarn. “In my range I have ‘core’ yarns – the staples of the range, such as the Grace and Kashmir family. Each season new fashion shades are added to the core ranges. To make room for these some shades have to be discontinued. The other yarns in the range usually last four seasons and are considered more ‘fashion’ yarns. To introduce and make way for new yarns I have to discontinue yarns.”
